Deviation switch - detects the deviation of the belt conveyor

The deviation switch is a product used to detect the amount of belt deviation of the belt conveyor, serving as a safety protection device that automatically alarms and stops the conveyor in case of belt deviation.

Introduction

The deviation switch has two angle levels, commonly used are: the first level angle is: 10, 12, 20, and the second level angle is: 30, 35, 45.

Basic Principle

When the conveyor belt deviates during operation, the conveyor belt touches the switch roller and causes the roller to deflect. When the deflection angle of the roller reaches the 1st level switch angle, the switch sends out an alarm signal. When the conveyor belt deviates severely and reaches the 2nd level switch angle, the switch sends out a stop signal, achieving the automatic shutdown of the conveyor belt deviation fault. When the deviation fault is eliminated and the conveyor belt operates normally, the switch roller can automatically reset to the initial state.

Installation and Adjustment

1. The deviation switch is installed on both sides of the conveyor belt, and the roller should be perpendicular to the plane of the conveyor belt edge, with the sides of the conveyor belt located at 1/3 of the roller height.

2. The distance between the deviation switch roller and the normal position of the conveyor belt should be 50-100mm.

3. The number of deviation switches should be determined according to the length, type, and layout of the conveyor. Generally, they should be set at the head, tail, convex arc section, concave arc section, and in the middle of the conveyor. (Note: When the conveyor is long, one pair should be set every 30-35 meters in the middle of the conveyor.)

4. The deviation switch should be connected to the conveyor intermediate frame through the installation bracket. The switch bracket should be welded to the conveyor frame after the conveyor is installed, and the deviation switch is fixed to the deviation switch bracket with bolts.

Scope of Application

Two-level deviation switches are used for regular belt conveyors: underground, ropeway-supported belt conveyors: ship loading and unloading systems; stacking/retrieval conveyors; inclined and shuttle conveyors; cranes, excavators, and crane arm limiters; skirt edge feeders/conveyors: heavy-duty limit switches detect the amount of belt deviation, serving as a protective device for automatic alarm and shutdown control of the belt machine. Widely used in various belt conveyor equipment in fields such as metallurgy, coal, cement building materials, mining, power, ports, metallurgy, and chemical industry.

Classification of Deviation Switch

The deviation switch has ordinary type, junction box type, and address coding type.

Ordinary type: It is the above-mentioned two-level deviation switch;

Junction box type: Based on the ordinary deviation switch, it comes with a waterproof junction box, and the on-site control cable can be directly connected to the junction box, eliminating the faults caused by cable joints getting wet or being falsely connected.

Address coding type: Based on the ordinary deviation switch, it integrates XLline field bus technology, realizing address coding function. It is suitable for long belt conveyors as remote monitoring of the operating conditions of on-site equipment, solving the inconvenience caused by workers looking for fault points.

The address coding type two-level deviation switch is connected to the comprehensive protector (gateway) through the XLline field bus, supporting up to 128 addresses, and the same address can be used for multiple switches simultaneously. Its greatest feature is that only a two-core cable is required to complete data transmission at the same time without power supply.

The XLline field bus can eventually be flexibly connected to PLC and computer interfaces of major manufacturers.

The cable pull switch (Cable Pull Switch), commonly known as the "emergency stop switch," is used in belt conveyor sites when a shutdown is required, stopping the conveyor by actuating the switch.

Introduction

The cable pull switch is divided into manual reset and automatic reset types, and it needs to meet the required IP level set by the country.

Automatic reset: After action, it can automatically return to the initial position but may cause unintentional restart.

Manual reset: After action, there is a self-locking device to keep it in the operating position. The reset handle needs to be operated manually to return it to the initial position.

The cable pull switch is an essential safety device for belt conveyors, preventing the escalation of accidents and significant losses. Due to easy installation and reliable switch conversion, it is widely used in belt transportation sites.

Principle

The cable pull switch is composed of a pull rod, reset handle, cam, locking groove, and microswitch.

The cable pull switch is installed on the frame on both sides of the belt conveyor, and the switch is connected by a wire rope along both sides of the conveyor. When an emergency occurs in the conveyor equipment, the wire rope is pulled at any point along the site, pulling the driving arm to rotate. The precision cam undergoes displacement through the torsion spring, driving the microswitch to cut off the control circuit, stopping the conveyor's operation.

Installation Adjustment

The cable pull switch should be installed in a place with maintenance access on both sides of the conveyor, and the installation position should ensure convenient operation for maintenance personnel in emergency situations.

1. Fix the cable pull switch on the frame.

2. The distance between the two switches on one side is about 50m, connected by a wire rope with a diameter of Φ4, with moderate tension.

3. To reduce the influence of the weight of the wire rope on the switch start, install a support ring on the frame every 3m to support the wire rope.

4. The other end of the wire rope is tied to the tension spring (fixed with a rope buckle). Use a tightener to tension the rope on both sides without affecting normal use, ensuring balanced tension on both sides.

(Note: For the climbing section of the conveyor, the switch spacing and rope length should be shortened as much as possible.)

Precautions

1. Cut off the main power supply first, and then use a multimeter to find the live wire. The switch must be installed at one end of the live wire.

2. Cut the live wire in a suitable place, and there will be two joints. The cable pull switch also has two joints.

3. Peel the two joints of the live wire to expose the metal wires, and connect them to the two joints of the switch arbitrarily.

4. Cut off the excess metal wire at the connected joints to prevent the two metal wires from colliding and shorting.

5. Rotate the cover of the cable pull switch, and you can see a metal shaft with a hole at one end.

6. There is also a hole on the side of the plastic shell of the cable pull switch. First, pass the rope through the hole in the plastic shell to lead the rope into the cable pull switch, then lead one end of the introduced rope into the shaft, tie a knot, and cut off the excess rope after tying.

7. Finally, screw the cover of the cable pull switch to prevent electric shock.

Scope of Application

The cable pull switch is a switch-type sensor (i.e., a no-contact travel switch), mainly used for conventional belt conveyors, shuttle conveyors, skirt edge feed conveyors, bucket elevators, packaging production lines, material stacking/retrieval systems, cranes, excavators, ship loading and unloading systems, horizontal feeders, and other equipment on-site emergency stop protection devices. When an emergency occurs, pulling the cable at any point along the site can send a stop signal, achieving the protection of personnel and equipment.

1. Definition of photoelectric switch:

Photoelectric switch (photoelectric sensor) is the abbreviation of photoelectric proximity switch. It uses the obstruction or reflection of the light beam by the detected object to turn on the circuit through the synchronous circuit, thereby detecting the presence or absence of the object. The photoelectric switch converts the input current into light signal and emits it on the emitter, and the receiver detects the presence or absence of the target object based on the intensity or absence of the received light.

2. Classification and working principles of photoelectric switches:

According to the detection method, it can be divided into diffuse-reflective type, through-beam type, mirror-reflective type, slot type photoelectric switch, and fiber optic photoelectric switch.

1. Through-beam type: It consists of an emitter and a receiver, which are structurally separated from each other. A switch signal change will occur when the light beam is interrupted.

2. Diffuse-reflective type: A sensor that integrates the emitter and receiver. When a detected object passes by, it reflects a sufficient amount of light emitted by the photoelectric switch emitter to the receiver, thus generating a switch signal. The detection distance is generally 3 meters.

3. Mirror-reflective type: It is a standard configuration composed of an emitter and a receiver. The light beam emitted from the emitter is reflected by the opposite mirror and returned to the receiver. A switch signal change will occur when the light beam is interrupted. The passage time of light is twice the signal duration, and the effective operating distance is from 0.1 meter to 20 meters.

4. Slot-type photoelectric switch: It is usually a standard U-shaped structure, with the emitter and receiver located on both sides of the U-shaped slot, forming an optical axis. When the detected object passes through the U-shaped slot and blocks the optical axis, the photoelectric switch generates a detected switch signal. Slot-type photoelectric switches are relatively safe and reliable, suitable for detecting high-speed changes and distinguishing transparent and translucent objects.

5. Fiber optic photoelectric switch: It uses plastic or glass fiber optic sensors to guide light to achieve detection of objects not in the vicinity. Usually, fiber optic sensors are divided into through-beam type and diffuse-reflective type.

5. Unaffected by magnetic fields and vibrations: The detection switches are generally installed in places with strong magnetic fields and vibrations. Essentially, photoelectric switches are rarely affected by them, so they can operate reliably.

6. Long service life: Because it is non-contact detection and uses light-emitting diodes as the light source, and the control output adopts a non-contact method, it has a long service life.

However, photoelectric switches also have the following disadvantages:

1. The lens is prone to pollution by dust and oil. Once the lens is dirty, not only the light beam is scattered, but also a part of the light is blocked. Therefore, in harsh environments, practical protection measures must be taken.

2. The intensity of ambient light affects the switch. For ordinary lighting, the photoelectric switch is almost unaffected, but if the background light is too strong, exceeding tens of thousands of lux, it will cause the switch to malfunction.

3. The cost is higher than other detection switches.
